At UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center we recognize that not all patients have the same level of mobility due to their illness and energy level and these lily pads will ease their journey. Pediatric patients at UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center received somenew transportaion courtesy of sophomores in the woodworking and art classes at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical High School. Responding to a special request from nurses, the Monty Tech students designed, created and delivered nine “lily pads” to help these young patients get where they need to go in a fun, creative way. Painted with contemporary artwork, the lily-pad-shaped platforms rest at the bottom of children’s IV poles so they can sit or stand on the base and easily be wheeled around the unit.
